Acland Street for food, fashion and bric-a-brac.

As well as the cafes and cake shops, Acland Street is a favourite for bric-a-brac shoppers and retro fashion dressers. It's a great place to find unusual and stylish gifts, second-hand furniture. quirky, independant bookstores and the very latest music. You'll find more shops in Barclay Street around the corner, and in nearby Balaclava and Elwood.

Chapel Street and Toorak Road, South Yarra.

Chapel Street is where you'll find some of Australia's top designers. And shoes, jewellery, make-up, men's clothing and more. While you're in the area visit the Jam Factory (restaurants, retail and cinemas) and the Como on the corner of Toorak Road (more restaurants, retail and cinema). Both Toorak Road and Commercial Road have their share of fashion boutiques as well.

     

     
 

Nearby Melbourne Markets. 

There are lots of markets in Melbourne for good wholesome produce plus gifts, clothing and handicrafts. The largest is the Queen Vic Market at the top end of the City but there's the South Melbourne market as well and the Prahran Market in Commercial Road. You can get to all of these from St Kilda very easily by car or public transport. Ask at the front desk for more information.

     

     
 

Bridge Road, Richmond. More than you bargained for.

Bridge Road is famous for its designer factory outlets... a shopper's paradise where you'll find exclusive labels next door to shops selling samples and seconds. There are lots of cafes and restaurants as well, everything from fine dining to a quick take away. Further East you'll find furniture shops selling everything from antiques to the latest contemporary styles. Most shops are open seven days a week.

     

 

Or simply catch a tram into the City.

If you want to do some serious shopping then you can always grab a tram and head into the City. As well as all the big retailers you can shop the historical laneways, alleys and arcades and find treasures like Retrostar Vintage Clothing hidden away in Swanston Street or Koko Black for amazing chocolate in the Block Arcade with its impressive etched glass roof and mosaic floor.

 

 
 

Bookstores, galleries and music stores.

If you're after the latest reading material and the very latest music then head to Readings in Acland Street and either Chronicles or Bookhouse, both in Fitzroy Street. For music see Rare Records (Acland Street) or Pure Pop Records in Barclay. If you need a larger choice then stroll down Chapel Street from St Kilda to South Yarra, there are many to choose from including Borders at the front of the Jam Factory.
